It is estimated that today 1 in 3 people will get diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Cancer is the second leading killer in the U.S. today. Only heart disease ranks higher as the leading cause of death. Over 1,500 people will die today of cancer. And in a years time, about 552,000 Americans will lose their battle with this heartless killer, according to the American Cancer Society. And who of us doesn't know someone who has either had it in the past or who is suffering with it now.

The real irony is that today's medical research has been able to determine what factors cause 80% of the the different forms of cancers we are faced with today and the evidence shows that they are PREVENTABLE! In other words, we have the ability to cut down on the number of people who will die of this deadly killer.

An ounce of prevention really does equal a pound of cure.

the first thing to consider is our lifestyle. Is it a healthy one or an unhealthy one? Bad habits like smoking, too much stress, taking drugs, overeating, poor diets and not getting enough exercise are just some of the reasons cancer is so widespread. Additionally, more and more Americans are becoming obese and leading sedentary lives.

Everything considered, it's only natural that many serious illnesses would plague our modern society. We are only reaping what we are sowing. The human body is like your automobile. If you never change the oil or the oil filter or the spark plugs and you use the wrong fuel and you have an engine full of sludge, your car breaks down. Similarly, We can't keep treating our bodies poorly and expect good, vibrant health. It doesn't work that way.

With all that being said, what can we personally do to drastically cut down our chances of ever getting cancer?

1) Keep your body alkaline:

Cancer cells cannot grow in an alkaline environment. That deserves repeating.

They need acid to thrive and spread. Too many of us have very acidic diets. If your diet consists mostly of cooked foods, meat, junk food, pasteurized fruit juices, soft drinks, wheat breads, pastas and cereals, but, you rarely eat any raw vegetables or fresh fruit or any raw nuts you are consuming an acidic diet. The only grain that is not acidic is millet. Rice is neutral. All other grains are acidic. It is important that you eat more foods that are alkaline. It is imperative that you consume more foods like: fresh picked apples and strawberries, bananas, raw almonds, garden salads and peaches. Cucumbers are really alkalizing and should be part of your diet. Absolutely avoid soft drinks like Coke or Pepsi. Soda pop is one of the worst things you can put in your body. They are "liquid cigarettes". They are extremely acidic and they eat away at the enamel on your teeth. You would have to drink 7 glasses of alkaline water to counteract the damage drinking just one soda does to your body. When I use the term alkaline water, I am talking about water with a pH above 7. The most alkaline water you can drink would have a pH of 9.5. Most bottled waters on the market are acidic or below a 7pH. I talk more about this on my page: How to Alkaline Your Body. 2) Drink Green Tea:

Green tea is full of antioxidants which fight free radicals. Green tea has been shown to protect against several different cancers and also helps prevent heart disease. You can also get green tea extract in capsule form if you want a higher, more potent concentration of it's healing properties without having to drink tea all day. 3) Eat more foods rich in antioxidants:

The best way to fight free radical damage in your body and prevent cellular damage is to eat foods rich in antioxidants. Some of the best sources of antioxidants are : grapes, apples (especially granny smith and gala apples), cranberries, wild blueberries, red cabbage, strawberries, prunes, fresh lemon, dates, oranges, sunflower seeds, artichokes, beans (especially red kidney, black beans and pinto beans) and russet potatos.

To keep your colon clean you need to eat a diet high in fiber. Avoid highly processed foods and white flour as much as possible. Try not to take too many antibiotics if you can help it. Antibiotics kill the "friendly" flora in your large intestine. You need that flora to help your colon digest your food and keep bad bacteria from taking over your digestive tract. Without it, constipation, unwanted weight gain, impacted fecal matter and then disease follows. It's a good idea to take a good probiotic supplement every day to make sure your colon is working properly. Many people do a colon cleanse once or twice a year to keep their colons clean and functioning properly. If you do not have a healthy bowel movement 2-3 times a day, suffer with constipation or see blood in your stool, you need to make some changes. These are signs of trouble. 6) Add garlic to your diet:

It may not be the best thing to eat in social situations, but, garlic has been shown to be toxic to certain tumor cells. Garlic also detoxifies potential carcinogens. 10) Exercise Regularly:

There are so many benefits to exercising regularly, it would be hard to list them all here. But, this is important to note: studies show that just walking for at least 30-45 minutes a day, between 3-5 times a week may prevent 5000 cases of breast cancer a year. Brisk walking has also been shown to help prevent endometrial, colon and prostate cancer.
