This is a popular drug of many doctors. Although it’s good at preventing recurrences of gout, it has serious side effects that do occur such as abdominal cramps; diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

Corticosteroids

Taken by injection into the affected area or taken orally these drugs are in the anti- inflammatory group. They too may cause many untoward side effects. Corticosteroids decrease the body’s ability to fight infections and can delay wound healing.

Corticosteroids can also lead to having brittle bones. And because of this very reason, many physicians do not like to continue injected corticosteroids as an ongoing pain management method for gout patients. And again, this treatment does not address the root cause of gout!

CAUTION: Taking baking soda to reduce gout pain and gout symptoms is generally safe. But, be aware that eating poorly and thinking you can just keep taking baking soda everyday for the rest of your life is not a good idea. It is not a cure all. In the short run, it's fine, but over a long period of time it is too alkalizing for your stomach and digestive system. I really do not recommend doing it for more than a couple of days. I know someone personally who thought they could just keep doing that and continue eating anything they wanted to. Well, they eventually ended up in the hospital with severe stomach pains. Again, the root cause of gout is poor eating habits. You really need to learn and adopt better eating habits and educate yourself on how to properly alkalize your body with alkalizing foods and supplements.
